DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

s  Provides experienced technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment. Advises applications development staff and users on database solutions to business problems, data architectures, database management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases.

s  Ensures economic and efficient availability of data within adequate safeguards.  Develops expertise in use of automated tools for database design and implementation. 

s  Develops procedures to address need for shell scripts and batch processes.  Ensures that documentation is complete and up-to-date. 

s  Develops procedures relating to database and application security including procedures by which access is authorized, enabled, changed and withdrawn. 

s  Develops procedures for periodic database backup.  Participates as a leader and as the senior team member.

s  Knows product architecture thoroughly in area of expertise (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) and is an expert at backup and recovery, especially in crisis situations. 

Knows a lot about tuning the database and applications and knows advanced replication and/or distribution methods and techniques. Should understand advanced product capabilities (for example, in the case of Oracle, parallel query, parallel server, or spatial data product options).

• Provides necessary mentorship, guidance, and training of entry level engineering crew
• Provides supports as required for ongoing analysis and troubleshooting
• Performs system monitoring, analyzing and documenting performance and conducting trend analysis as required
• Executes/monitors system backups and verifies validity of backups
• Assists in the implementation of changes to the system configuration
• Implements automation of routine tasks
